Military General Service 1793-1814, 1 clasp, Java (C. Green, 59th Foot) edge bruising and contact marks, otherwise nearly very fine £800-1000

Also entitled to a medal for Bhurtpoor.

Charles Green was born at Loughborough, Leicestershire, circa 1784, and enlisted into the 59th Foot at Nottingham on 8 April 1804. He served with the 1st Battalion of the regiment until his discharge on 23 June 1828, in consequence of being ‘old and worn out.’ He was then aged 44 and a framework knitter by trade. He had served in the East Indies for just over 22 years and was present at the capture of Java as well as the siege and capture of Bhurtpore. He died at Disworth on 5 December 1869.
