Robert France was born at Atherton, Lancaster, and enlisted into the 14th Foot at Winchester on 30 November 1803, aged 20, for unlimited service. He served in the East Indies from November 1807 until May 1825, and was discharged ‘worn out’ in consequence of ‘his labouring under vertigo, loss of teeth and partial deafness’ on 23 June 1825. His conduct was described as ‘very bad, constantly drunk.’ Sold with copy discharge papers.
