Great Britain, Biarritz, queen victoria, 1939, the obverse steel working punch for the medal by M. Real del Sarte, coronetted bust left, waves in field, stamped 4720 on front and BOB on side, 60mm (cf. Real del Sarte, Histoire & d’Arts, Plon, 1956, p.28, 143; cf. DW 24, 307). Extremely fine and as made, UNIQUE (£80-120)

Sold with a photocopied photograph of a large relief plaster model for the medal being worked on.

A large cast of the medal (
cf. DW 24, 307), was presented to the Duke (formerly Edward VIII) and Duchess of Windsor by F. Hirigoyen, mayor of Biarritz, on 2 March 1939. Subsequently, medals of the size represented by the present punch, in silver and bronze, were presented to George VI in July 1939 and to Winston Churchill when he visited Hendaye on 14 July 1945
