Germany, Centenary of the Birth of Alfred Krupp, 1912, an oval silver medal by H. Hahn, bust left, reverse blacksmith standing by anvil, holding hammer and sword, 53 x 37mm (Kunstmedaille 8, 276; cf. DNW 35, 411). Very fine, with integral loop, rare; in red fitted case of issue (£40-60)

Alfred Krupp (1812-87), second generation inventor and metallurgist, known as the ‘Cannon King’ because of the enormous siege guns built by the Krupp family steel and armament manufactory in Essen and deployed in the Franco-Prussian War, 1870-71
