Monmouthshire, Monmouthshire Asylum Committee [Abergavenny], a silver badge in the shape of a Maltese cross, Justice seated, holding scales, back named (Charles Goode, 1897), hallmarked hc Birmingham 1897, 32mm. About extremely fine and very rare; with loop suspension and original faded crimson ribbon (£60-80)

Plate 13, obverse only. The lunatic asylum in Abergavenny opened in December 1851 and initially served the communities of Monmouthshire, Herefordshire, Brecon and Radnor. It was the Joint Counties asylum until 1897, after which it served Monmouthshire alone
