Nicephorus III (1078-1081), Plated Histamenon Nomisma, c. 1081-92, Christ enthroned facing, nikh[——], rev. bust facing, holding sceptre surmounted by pelleted star and globus cruciger, 4.28g/6h (cf. DOC Alexius I T1b; cf. Sear 1893). Good very fine (£80-100)

Although this ambiguous plated histamenon and the type belongs to the reign of his successor Alexius I, it has the striking characteristics of an official coin of Nicephorus III
