4th or Royal Irish Dragoon Guards, a very fine and original trooper’s 1843 pattern brass helmet, complete with all standard brass fittings, the frontal plate bearing the post 1837 Royal Arms and the honour ‘Peninsula’ below, title band reads ‘4th or Royal Irish Dragn Guards’, the tall brass comb ornamented in relief with sprays of acanthus, laurel and oak, large brass rose pattern side ornaments and correct graduated and decorated leather-lined chin scales, sound internally with stout leather helmet liner and stitched-over softer leather sweatband, the black ‘shaving brush’ and falling black horse hair crest early replacements, the frontal plate and brass comb with minor holes on the high points commensurate with age, the rear peak with very minor dents, otherwise a very fine period example £3000-3500
