A presentation sword of the Artist’s Rifles, presented to an officer who had won the Military Cross and two bars during the Great War, an 1827 pattern rifle regiment sword, the 82cm blade by Sigley & Co, 31 Garrard Street, London, etched with crowned GVR cypher foliate scrolls, regimental device of Mars and Minerva, strung bugle and ‘Artist’s Rifles’ and regimental motto and within a panel a presentation inscription ‘Presented to Lieut. E L Jerwood MC on his promotion from his friends in the Sergt’s Mess Artist’s Rifles 1925’ regulation plated steel guard incorporating strung bugle, fish-skin covered grip bound with copper wire, complete with plated steel scabbard, blade a little discoloured otherwise good condition £300-350

Edward Longsdon Jerwood, born 14th December 1883 son of Rev TF Jerwood of Little Bowden Rectory, Market Harborough, educated at Oakham School, a pearl and diamond merchant by profession he joined the Artist’s Rifles in 1915, commissioned into the 1st Battalion Royal Berkshire Regiment, and was awarded the military Cross for gallantry South of Richebourge L’Avoue 15th May 1915, a first bar for an action near Oppy Wood 29th April 1917 and a second bar for an action near Bermerain 24th October 1918, he was additionally MID.
