A rare E.II.R. M.S.M. group of four awarded to Sergeant H. G. Marsh, Royal Marines

Naval General Service 1915-62
, 1 clasp, Malaya, G.VI.R. (R.M. 9803 F. R. Marsh, Mne., R.M.); General Service 1962, 3 clasps, Borneo, Malay Peninsula, Northern Ireland (R.M. 18729 H. G. Marsh, R.M.), mounted for wearing as worn, the first officially corrected and actually his brother’s award, generally good very fine (4) £1500-1700

Sergeant Harold George Marsh was born in January 1931 and originally entered the Royal Marines in February 1948, subsequently seeing service in Malaya with X Troop of No. 45 Commando (his brother, F.R. Marsh, was similarly engaged and at some stage their respective campaign awards were erroneously swopped). Harold left the Corps in June 1956 after his seven year engagement but rejoined in July 1957, thereafter seeing continuous service until his discharge in August 1986, when his character was described as ‘Exemplary’.

His resultant medal and clasp entitlements were for Borneo with No. 40 Commando in 1966; the L.S. & G.C. Medal in July 1967; Malay Peninsula with No. 41 Commando in 1971; Northern Ireland with No. 41 Commando in 1972; the M.S.M. in January 1981; and a Bar to L.S. & G.C. in July 1982, the latter being received from the hands of the First Sea Lord, Admiral Sir Henry Leach, G.C.B.; sold with copy service papers and other details. A fine record.
