Oliver Holmes, from Jesmond, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, served as an Electrician Engineer aboard the armed yacht H.M.S. Sagitta during 1915/16. He received his commission as a Temporary Sub Lieutenant in the R.N.V.R. on 15 November 1917. He was promoted to Temporary Lieutenant on 28 November 1918 and was demobilized on 5 February 1919.

Sold with a photograph album and scrap book containing many wartime and peacetime photographs, cuttings, cards etc relating to members of the Holmes family and various ships. Contains a typed letter bearing some wartime reminiscences of Oliver Holmes who witnessed several ships being sunk by mines.
