Charles Sanderson was born in Leeds, West Yorkshire. He enlisted into the Scottish Rifles at Leeds on 22 February 1897, aged 15 years, 6 months. With the regiment he served in South Africa, November 1900-May 1904 and Malta, September 1911-September 1914, and entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 5 November 1914, serving there until 16 August 1917. Returning home, he was discharged on completion of his second period of service on 12 February 1919. Sold with copied service papers and m.i.c.
