Harry Claude Willson was born in Bath, Somerset on 21 December 1890. An Engineer by occupation, he enlisted into the R.N.A.S. as a Petty Officer Mechanic on 13 November 1914. Based at Pembroke III and President II, he served in Armoured Cars until discharged in January 1916. He was appointed a Temporary Sub-Lieutenant in the R.N.V.R. in June 1916 and advanced to Temporary Lieutenant in June 1917. He was demobilised on 21 March 1919.
