M.C. London Gazette 16 August 1917. ‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty, he displayed great courage, devotion and detirmination in tending the wounded under very heavy fire. His devotion to duty saved many lives’.

J. W. Woodsall, born in 1883, appointed a Warrant Officer in 1905 and a 3rd Class Assistant Surgeon in the I.M.S. in 1910; awarded the N.G.S. clasp Persian Gulf 1909-14 for service as an Assistant Surgeon aboard the R.I.M.S.
Minto during 1911. In the following year he held the same position on R.I.M.S. Comet. During the Great War as an Assistant Surgeon with the I.M.S. he was awarded the M.C. and M.S.M. He was promoted to 2nd Class Assistant Surgeon in 1917, 1st Class Assistant Surgeon in 1922 and Senior Assistant Surgeon in 1933.

These medals are representative of the awards to the above and have been assembled in recent years for display purposes.
