The 9th Volunteer Battalion (Highlanders) Royal Scots was raised in Edinburgh in 1900. A ‘kilted’ volunteer battalion, it was known as the ‘Dandy Ninth’. Only 10 Volunteer Force Long Service Medals were issued to the unit; it is possible that the above was the only Victoria issue.
