Army L.S. & G.C., G.V.R., 3rd issue, Regular Army (2865698 W.O.Cl.1 J. H. Dought, E. Lan. R.) good very fine (2) £50-70

The service number on John Henry Dought’s L.S. & G.C. probably indicates his enlistment into the Gordon Highlanders, probably as a band member. He was transferred to the East Lancashire Regiment as W.O.Cl.1 Bandmaster on 15 December 1935. In the Second World War one can speculate that he possibly served with the 1st Battalion when it was posted to France in early 1940 and took part in the defence of Escaut and the retreat to Dunkirk. He was promoted to Lieutenant Quarter Master on 15 August 1945 and Captain Quarter Master on 9 March 1948. During 1949 he was Captain Quarter Master at the School of Infantry Support Weapons Wing. He attained the rank of Major Quarter Master on 17 January 1954. Having been appointed to the Reserve of Officers, he ceased to be a member, having exceeded the age limit on 30 December 1959. He was re-appointed to the Reserve of Officers with the same rank on 10 June 1966. Sold with an East Lancashire Regiment cap badge and copied research.
