1914 Star (1193 2/A.M. R. J. Kirwin, R.F.C.) nearly extremely fine £120-160

Raymond Joseph Kirwin was born in Donnybrook, Dublin, on 4 March 1893. He enlisted into the Royal Flying Corps as an Air Mechanic 2nd Class on 31 March 1914. With the R.F.C. he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 12 August 1914. On 16 October 1914 he was advanced to Air Mechanic 1st Class. On 12 May 1915 it is recorded on his service papers that he was ‘wounded, reported by wire from aeronautics in the field’. He was promoted to Corporal on 1 July 1915, to Sergeant on 1 September 1916 and Flight Sergeant on 8 August 1917. On 1 April 1918 he was transferred to the R.A.F. as a Chief Mechanic. Kirwin was discharged to the Reserve in 1920 and fully discharged in 1922, having completed his period of service. Sold with copied service papers and m.i.c.
