Indian Mutiny 1857-59, no clasp (Geo. Peters, 43rd Lt. Infy.) very fine £300-350

George Peters was born in Linton, Cambridge in 1823, and enlisted at Royston on 1 November 1842, aged 19 years. With the 43rd Regiment he served in the Third Kaffir War and was awarded the South Africa 1834-53 Medal. He was aboard the Birkenhead when she struck an unchartered rock off Danger Point, Western Cape, 26 February 1852. He survived the ordeal to see service in the supression of the Indian Mutiny. Private George Peters died at Calpee on 19 December 1858. Sold with copied research.
