(Charles) Archibald (Walker) Rose was born on 14 July 1879, the son of Thomas Edward Rose. Entering into the Diplomatic Service, he was present at the defence of the Legations, listed as with the Student Consular Service. For his services during the siege he was awarded the China Medal with clasp. He was later a Consul at Chungking, Chefoo, Ningpo and Hangchow and travelled extensively in China, Mongolia and Central Asia. In 1911 he was awarded the C.I.E. He represented the Foreign Office at the Tripartite Conference re Tibet at Simla, 1913-14 and was the Commecial attache at Shanghai, 1915 and Peking, 1917. Ranked 1st Secretary in the Diplomatic Service, he retired in 1921. Latterly living at The Moat Farm, Framlingham, Suffolk; he died on 3 March 1961.
