M.S.M. awarded 22 August 1952.

Alfred Smith served with the newly formed Royal Army Medical Corps in the Sudan and with the 8th General Hospital at Bloemfontein during the Boer War. He served with the 5th Cavalry Field Ambulance in France and Flanders from 18 August 1914, this unit joining the 2nd Cavalry Division on 13 September 1914. He was discharged to a commission as Lieutenant & Quartermaster R.A.M.C. on 20 August 1916. Sold with copies of all relevant medal rolls.
