Denmark, Order of the Elephant, a 20th century privately manufactured sash badge, 57 x 54mm. (excluding suspension ring), silver, silver-gilt and enamel, the elephant in white enamel with a blue saddle cloth, on one side set with five pastes in a cruciform pattern and on the other the cypher of Frederick IX (1947-72); a further paste stone is set on the elephant’s forehead and two small pastes form its eyes; on its back, a turret set with two bands of paste stones, on its head a mahout holding an ankah, together with a full sash fitted with loops for supporting the elephant’s legs, the mahout slack/loose, good very fine £1800-2200
