Inspector W.R. White was awarded the bronze medal in 1938 for the outstanding rescue of an injured swan from the mudflats at Woolston, Hampshire. He was awarded the silver medal and bar, both for 1940, probably in recognition of the courage and humanity in rescuing animals from areas rendered dangerous by delayed action bombs. He retired in 1961.
