Alfred Dodd enrolled in the Christchurch City Rifle Volunteers on 26 October 1893, giving his occupation as “bootmaker”. He was advanced to Corporal in 1899 and Sergeant in 1904. He transferred to the North Palmerston Rifle Volunteers in May 1908 and then to the Wellington City Rifle Volunteers in 1909. He last appears in the rolls in 1911.
