, these unnamed as issued; King’s African Rifles L.S. & G.C., G.VI.R. (7231 Sjt. Wnaja Pongolo, K.A.R.), note spelling of name, some contact marks, nearly very fine (3) £140-180

L.S. & G.C. Medal Nyassaland Government Gazette 16 February 1943.

Wanja Pongolo, a member of the Yao Tribe, from the the village of Mtamila in the District of Liwondea, and a Personal Servant by occupation, enlisted into the K.A.R. at Zomba, Nyasaland, on 21 May 1924. He gained the rank of Serjeant in December 1936. He was discharged with the rank of Company Sergeant Major on 29 June 1945 due to ‘senility’. Sold with a copied gazette entry and a number of copied service papers - some giving his name as ‘Pongolani’.
