Robert Alexander Robertson was born in Hamilton, Ontario, on 16 May 1869. He joined the 13th Royal Regiment (Canadian Militia) as a 2nd Lieutenant on 30 June 1896. Robertson was a crack shot, obtaining the highest score during the 5th Imperial Rifle Match; he also represented Canada as a member of the Bisley team for 1899 and was a member of the team firing for the Palma Trophy in 1901. He was promoted to Lieutenant in September 1898, Captain in September 1903 and Major in July 1915. During the war he served in the Mobilisation Depot for Hamilton, being appointed to the Saff of the C.E.F. and given the task of Recruiting Officer for the Hamilton District, being made a Tempoary Lieutenant-Colonel, November 1915-December 1918. He attained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in December 1918 and in May 1919 was given command of the 13th Regiment. Lieutenant-Colonel Robertson retired in 1928 and died two years later. Sold with newspaper cuttings relating to the recipient, together with copied service papers and other research.
