Army L.S. & G.C., V.R., 3rd issue, small letter reverse (1941 Pte. C. Brocker, 3-60th Foot) some edge bruising and contact marks, very fine £90-110

Charles Brocker was born in Paddington, London. A Plasterer by occupation, he attested for the 60th Regiment on 15 November 1859, aged 18 years, 6 months. With the 3rd Battalion, he served in India and Burma, July 1861-March 1863, being invalided to England suffering with an illness. He returned to India, January 1869-November 1871, after which he was posted to Aden, December 1871-November 1872, before returning again to England. In early 1879 the battalion was posted to South Africa, for service in the Zulu War, arriving there in March 1879. The battalion formed part of the column destined for the relief of Etshowe and fought the Zulus at the battle of Gingindlovu, 2 April 1879. After the war, Brocker was discharged at Netley, England on 7 December 1880, having served 21 years, 22 days with the Colours. At his discharge he was in possession of four good conduct badges, the L.S. & G.C. Medal and the South Africa Medal 1877-79 with clasp for 1879. Sold with copied discharge papers, a detailed service history and other research.
