Baronet’s Badge, of the United Kingdom, neck badge, 22ct. gold and enamel, hallmarks for London 1929, rev. inscribed, ‘Worley of Ockshott 1928’, with neck cravat, in case of issue, test mark to edge, otherwise extremely fine £900-1000

Arthur Worley was born 10 May 1861, the son of Philip Worley of Irlam o’ the Heights, Manchester. He was Manager of the Railway Passengers’ Assurance Co. in 1911, becoming a Director in 1924 and Chairman and Managing Director in 1936. He was Manager of the Ocean Marine Insurance Co. in 1917, becoming a Director in 1928 and Chairman and Managing Director in 1936. Other posts included Chairman of the Fine Art and General Insurance C. Ltd., 1919; Chairman British Aviation Insurance Co. Ltd.; Member of Committees advising the Ministry of Munitions on Explosion Claims and Indemnities; Past President and Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute; Past President of the Insurance Institute of London; Member of the Royal Commission on National Health Insurance, 1924-26; and Extraordinary Director of the Royal Bank of Scotland, 1925. For his services, he was Knighted in 1921 and created a Baronet in 1928. Worley married Edith Kay in 1899, had two daughters and latterly lived at The Gables, Oxshott, Surrey. Upon his death on 19 July 1937 his title became extinct.
