Captain E. V. Corrie, Lydenburg Rifles, clasp confirmed. 106 medals issued to the regiment; 102 with clasp ‘1879’; 47 returned to Woolwich/Mint. Captain Corrie was the author of the book, The Promised Land, 1884. In it he gives a graphic account of the Second Campaign of the Second Sekukuni War (1879) and of the assault on the Sekukuni’s Stad, 28 November 1879, in which the Lydenburg Rifles took part.

During the First Boer War, Lydenburg was the scene of a siege, 6 January-30 March 1881; the British Garrison of some 100 men being commanded by Lieutenant Walter Long.
