South Africa 1877-79, 1 clasp, 1879 (722 Pte. C. Connolly, 1/24th Foot) official correction to ‘Foot’, otherwise very fine £4000-5000

Ex A. A. Upfill-Brown collection, Dix Noonan Webb, 4 December 1991 (Lot 37).

Cornelius Connolly was killed in action at Isandhlwana on 22 January 1879.

He had enlisted at Brecon in January 1876, aged 21 years, and departed England for South Africa almost immediately with the 1st Battalion, 24th Foot. His effects were claimed by his father, like those of his brother John who also fell at Isandhlwana.
