Thomas Holland was born in Rochdale, Lancashire. A Labourer by occupation, he enlisted into the 19th Foot at Bradford on 8 November 1864 aged 19 years. He transferred to the 1st Battalion 24th Foot on 21 February 1879 and served with them in South Africa, 1 March-2 October 1879. He then returned to service with the 19th Foot. His name appeared 44 times in the regimental defaulters book, eight of which resulted in trials by court martial. ‘1879’ clasp confirmed. Sold with some copied notes.
