Robert Hinds Gill was commissioned a Lieutenant in the 2nd Battalion Hampshire Regiment on 1 March 1883. On 21 October 1885 he sailed with them from India to Burma. In July 1889 he transferred to the Ordnance Department. He was promoted Captain on 1 July 1890 and became a Deputy Assistant Commissary General in the Ordnance Stores Department on 16 August 1890 and an Ordnance Officer 4th Class on 1 April 1896. He was promoted to Major on 16 March 1901 and Ordnance Officer 3rd Class on 1 April 1904. Major Gill retired from the Army, going on Half Pay in 1905. Sold with some copied research.
