Charles James Pratt (‘C. Pratt’ on medals) was born in Brighton, Sussex. A Carter by occupation, he attested for the Royal Sussex Regiment on 14 November 1882, aged 19 years, 2 months. He served with the regiment in Egypt, 25 April 1883-17 December 1885 and then in India, 18 December 1885-7 February 1890. Whilst in India he took part in the ‘Black Mountain Expedition’ as part of the Hazara Field Force under the command of General J. W. McQueen. Becoming time expired in 1894, he continued to serve in the Reserve until March 1901. Sold with copied service papers and roll extracts.
