Ireland, General Maxwell, ‘Ireland’s Gravedigger”, satirical iron medal by Walter Ebernach Irish shield with spade decorated with Royal Standard, reverse seated skeleton puffing on a pipe, 69mm (cf. BDM 32, 546-AE). Good very fine but obverse somewhat spotty (£80-120)

General Maxwell (1859-1929) was the British commander-in-chief in Ireland following the Easter Rising in 1916. This medal is believed to be the only medallic reference to Maxwell.
