Battle of Copenhagen, 1801, Danish silver medal, 1801, by Loos, male figure in antique miltary dress holding shield adorned with plain cross attacking a many-headed sea monster, reverse similar figure handing sword to seated figure of Justice, 39mm (Laugwitz [1976] 850). Nearly extremely fine, deeply toned (£50-60)
Curiously only a 38mm medallion and a small counter were struck in England to mark Nelson’ s great naval victory at Copenhagen. The reverse seems to allude to the Peace Treaty with Denmark and the alliance against Napoleon that followed the battle.
