Lady Edith’s Drive, named after Lady Edith Frances Wilhelmina, née Somerset (1838-1915), wife of William Denison, 1st Earl of Londesborough (1834-1900), the major landowner in Scarborough and owner of Raincliff Woods, through which the Drive ran. Opened as a toll road in August 1864, it remained in the ownership of the Denison family until December 1926
