A total of only 33 King's South Africa medals were issued to Naval forces, only 3 of these in combination with the clasp for Natal. During the Great War Hebbes served in H.M.S. Dreadnought 1914-15, H.M.S. Halcon 1915-18, and H.M.S. Rameses 1918-19. Whilst in Halcyon, a torpedo Gunboat based at Lowestoft, he will have participated in the sinking of UB27 which resulted in the award of the D.S.O. to Lt. Cdr. Bannerman. Sold with further details.
