William Henry Waycott was born in Upnor Green, Kent, on 6 April 1843, and joined the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class on 6 October 1857. Advanced Petty Officer 1st Class aboard H.M.S. Achilles on 1 January 1873, he served aboard Lord Warden, Hercules and Penelope before being shore pensioned at his own request in May 1885. He died in Medway, Kent, in 1908.
