James Love was born in Canning Town, London, in 1878, and attested for the Royal Artillery at Dover on 4 January 1897. He served on the island of St. Helena from 28 April 1898 to 30 March 1902, almost certainly guarding Boer Prisoners of War, before transferring to St. Lucia and South Africa.
D. Langston appears in Hart’s Annual Army List of 1903 as Lieutenant at Depot, Newport, Royal Garrison Artillery.
