Delhi Durbar 1911, silver (3597 Sgt.-Dmr. W. Taylor. R. Berks. Regt.) contemporarily engraved naming, contact marks, very fine £60-£80

William Taylor was born in Andover, Hampshire, in 1879 and at age 14 attested as a Boy Drummer into the Royal Berkshire Regiment on 20 August 1892. He served in South Africa during the Boer War (entitled to a Queen’s South Africa Medal with clasp for Cape Colony, Orange Free State, and Transvaal; and King’s South Africa Medal with the two date clasps), and later served in India, being present at the Delhi Durbar 1911, a month after the award of his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal. Appointed Battery Quartermaster Sergeant, he served in Ireland during the Great War and was discharged to pension in February 1920.

Sold with a Royal Berkshire Regiment cap badge, copied service papers, medal roll extracts, and a photographic image of the Royal Berkshire Regimental band.
