Thomas Harwood, a Labourer from Crewkerne, Somerset, was born around 1844. He attested into the 59th Foot on 4 October 1862 and was initially appointed Corporal on 1 September 1867. He served in Afghanistan from 13 December 1878 to 1 September 1880, where he was present at the action at Ahmed Khel. Awarded his LSGC with gratuity in 1882, he was discharged on 1 February 1884.
