William Howarth served with the Corps of Royal Artillery Drivers and fought in the Peninsular War with “C” Troop, attached Lawson’s Company, 8th Battalion, Royal Artillery. Wounded in four different areas of the body - the neck, right hip, right elbow and finger of the left hand - he fought at the Battle of Waterloo and was later granted a pension of 9d. per day in 1858.
