Frank Nicks was born in America in 1871, and enlisted at Durban for the 2nd Kitchener’s Fighting Scouts. A mechanical engineer by trade, he witnessed extensive service during the Boer War before being discharged from “H” Squadron at Netley on 10 December 1901, having been found unfit for for further service.
