A Finnish 18ct gold suite by Lapponia, comprising a pendant necklace, a bracelet and a pair of ear pendants, the abstract designs incorporating overlapping textured forms, with single-cut diamond highlights, the necklace with central pendant suspended on fancy baton-link chain with hook clasp, all pieces signed, the bracelet with date letter for 1985, and European convention mark, the ear pendants with date letter for 1977, necklace length 44cm, bracelet 19cm, ear pendants 2.6cm. £1,600-£2,000
The Finnish firm Lapponia was formed in the 1960s by entrepreneur Pekka Anttila and designer Björn Weckström. Their bold abstract designs are inspired by their dramatic Nordic environment.
In 1977 Lapponia jewellery featured in the iconic Star Wars film by George Lucas: Princess Leia wears a Björn Weckström ‘Planetoid Valleys’ necklace and ‘Darina’ bracelet when she presents medals to Luke Skywalker and Han Solo at the climax of the film.
