Arthur Lawrence attested for the Somerset Light Infantry during the Great War and served in India with the 2nd Battalion, on the Afghanistan North West Frontier in 1919. Transferring to the ‘Z’ Reserve on 1 January 1920, he later served in the Special Constabulary.
