The 1914-15 Star awarded to Private H. Valentine, 15th (1st Salford Pals) Battalion, Lancashire Fusiliers, who was killed in action on the Western Front on the first day of the Battle of the Somme, 1 July 1916, on which date the entire battalion was virtually wiped out

Harry Valentine, a native of Gorton, Lancashire, attested for the Lancashire Fusiliers and served with the 15th (1st Salford Pals) Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front. He was killed in action at Thiepval Ridge on the first day of the Battle of the Somme, 1 July 1916, an action that saw the entire battalion nearly wiped out. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, France.
