Ghuznee 1839 (Lieut. T.O. Ruttledge 17th. Regt.) reverse neatly engraved in small serif capitals, with loop and small ring suspension, minor edge bruising, good very fine £300-£400

Thomas Ormsby Ruttledge was commissioned Ensign in the 17th Foot in April 1836, and was promoted Lieutenant in April 1838. He served in the campaign in Afghanistan in 1839, and was present at the Capture of Ghuznee, 23 July 1839, and at the Capture of Kelat, 13 November 1839. He was promoted Captain in September 1845, and Major in December 1854, and served as Second in Command of the 17th Foot in the Crimea, where he was present at the siege of Sebastopol, December 1854 to July 1855, including the first attack on the Grand Redan, 18 June 1855. For his services in the Crimea he was awarded the Turkish Order of the Medjidieh, Fifth Class.

Note: Three other Ghuznee Medals, some original and some unofficial, all engraved to the recipient, are known to exist.
