D.C.M. London Gazette 3 June 1919; citation published 11 March 1920:
‘C./S./M. A. Marriott, 7th Bn., Rif. Bde., attd. 33rd Bn., Lond. R. (Chesterfield).
For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty over a long period. On many occasions during the recent fighting his coolness and leadership have been beyond all praise. Untiring in his devotion to duty at all times, he has always maintained the highest standard of conduct and has inspired all ranks by his fine example.’
A. Marriott served in France with the King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry from 7 August 1915, before transferring to the 7th Battalion, Rifle Brigade, and attached to the 33rd Battalion, London Regiment.
