George Stourton Mainwaring Larder was commissioned Second Lieutenant in the 3rd Battalion, Devonshire Regiment (Special Reserve of Officers) on 6 November 1912, and was promoted Lieutenant on 8 August 1914. He served with the Devonshire Regiment, and subsequently on attachment to the Scottish Rifles, during the Great War on the Western Front from 5 November 1914.
