M.I.D. London Gazette 1 January 1945:
‘For gallantry or outstanding service in the face of the enemy, or for zeal, patience and cheerfulness in dangerous waters, and for setting an example of whole hearted devotion to duty, upholding the high traditions of the Royal Navy.’
Ralph Douglas Searle was born on 2 November 1919, the son of Gunner Ralph Searle, Royal Garrison Artillery, and was awarded his Royal Navy Long Service and Good Conduct Medal on 31 August 1954.
