A Great War ‘Western Front’ D.C.M. awarded to Corporal G. T. Bevan, Manchester Regiment and Machine Gun Corps

D.C.M. London Gazette 14 January 1916; citation published 11 March 1916:
‘For conspicuous gallantry. When the parapet close to a machine gun had been blown down, he exhibited great courage and presence of mind in dismantling the gun and removing it; the whole emplacement being blown up by a high explosive shell a few seconds later.’

George Thomas Bevan attested for the Manchester Regiment and served with them during the Great War on the Western Front from 27 August 1914, being awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal whilst attached to the 1st Battalion. He subsequently transferred to the Machine Gun Corps, and ultimately to the Royal Artillery, and was advanced Corporal.
