Waterloo 1815, 22mm, silver (... Chas. Gregorie 13th. Dra...ns) contemporarily engraved in running script, with ball and ring suspension, edge bruising, heavily polished and worn, therefore about fair, the reverse better £240-£280
Charles Gregorie was initially commissioned Ensign in the Coldstream Guards, and was promoted Captain, by purchase, in the 2nd Ceylon Regiment on 4 August 1808. He exchanged into the 72nd (Highland) Regiment of Foot the following month, before transferring as Captain to the 6th Dragoon Guards on 10 May 1810, and then to the 13th Light Dragoons on 20 June 1811. He served with the 13th Light Dragoons in the Peninsula from September 1811 to January 1814, and was present at the actions at Arroyo dos Molinos, Vittoria, Nivelle, Nive, and Garris (awarded the Military General Service Medal with three clasps), as well as during the Waterloo Campaign, 16-18 June 1815. Later transferring to the 22nd Light Dragoons, he retired by sale of his commission on 14 September 1820. He died in Florence, Tuscany, on 16 October 1858.
